ONLY SELF-ALIGNING BEARINGS !

Irrespective of the size of your boat or the size of the rudder fitted to your boat your rudder stock will deflect as a result of the water pressure on the rudder blade and the loads acting on it.

With a simple plain rudder bearing this results in increased friction in the bearings.

At best these increased loads result in more loads on the helm detracting from the pleasure of steering a sailing a yacht by hand.

At worst these friction loads can get so high the steering can lock.

For this reason JP3 only manufactures rudder bearings that are SELF ALIGNING. The ability for our bearings to align with the rudder stock as it deflects reduces the friction in the system, which we believe is essential for a GOOD SAFE STEERING.

WHICH RUDDER BEARING ?

As the size and style of both power and sailing yachts is wide and varied so are the size and types of rudders being installed in these vessels.

JP3 aims to cater for all vessel types by offering a rudder bearing to suit every application.

We currently offer  different types of bearings.

Each of these bearings types is available in a range of mounting styles to suit every application.

If we do not have a bearing for your application, contact us, we will design one for you.

OUR DIFFERENT TYPES OF BEARINGS :

Type 1

The type 1 bearing is plain and low cost bearing favoured by numerous  shipyards.

Designed to be fitted to boats up to 45 feet  in length the Type 1 bearings feature a spherical Ertalyte® knuckle fitted within a precision machined aluminium housing.

Fit boats with titanium, aluminium or stainless steel rudderstocks up to 110 mm in diameter.

The bearing is non watertight as is fitted a rudder tube to ensure watertightness

2 models : with ertalyte knuckle ( model 10.XX.XX)  or stainless steel needles ( model 15.XX.XX).

Type 2

The type 2 bearing has been specifically designed for cruising boats with aluminium or stainless steel stocks where larger axial and radial loads are expected.

Mainly aimed to fit motorboats as upper bearing.

Watertight, this bearing offers several possibilities for the mounting.

Type 3

The type 3 bearing is mostly used as lower bearing for powerboats fitted with stainless steel or titanium rudder shafts. The bearing incorporates needle rollers and needles.

Watertight, theses bearings can be made to suit any stock size.

Type 4

The type 4 is a spherical roller bearing incorporating up to 3 rows of barrel rollers for use with composite and metal rudderstocks.

Includes integral seals to ensure perfect watertightness.

Initially designed of larger diameters up to 550 mm there is no real limit to size.

Type 5

Designed for motor yachts with metallic rudderstocks, the Type 5 bearing features a heavy-duty steel spherical roller core, which allows the bearing to sustain high radial loads.

Like the type 3 and 4 bearings, the type 5 bearing is watertight and has no limit to size.
