Artemis, developed by JP3, is a software for steering systems calculation. It computes the bending and torque stresses borne by the rudder stock as well as the resulting loads on the bearings. This calculation allows the determination of the exact scantling of any metallic rudder stock, according to the mechanical characteristics of the materials used.

In order to achieve complete reliability, all the Artemis calculations are compared to the maximum working loads allowed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The aim of Artemis is therefore twofold: Optimizing the weight, size and cost of the rudder stocks while maximizing safety.
